From 14 to 17 May 2015, the Agrupación Astronómica de Sabadell hosted the annual GEOS symposium, bringing together sixteen participants from France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Italy and Spain. After the welcome session and a tour of the facilities, the scientific programme unfolded in English, structured into three sections: methodology (curvefitting techniques, the Astrosplines software, crossvalidation), observation (duplicate variables in the VSX, eclipsing binaries, indeterminate types, pulsators observed from Madrid, spectrometry), and instrumentation (new telescopes in IRIS, Cape Verde and Dourbes, Hα measurements).
Two special contributions stood out: Carme Jordi’s presentation of the first GAIA results, widely praised, and Xavier Puig’s description of the automation of the Montsec telescope. The Saturday excursion to the Montsec included visits to the Agrupación’s observatories, Ramon Moliner’s private observatory, the Centre d’Observació de l’Univers, and finally the Astronomical Observatory of Montsec.
The final session focused on updates to the GEOS database, revisions of OC analysis methods, and new scientific proposals. GEOS president Ennio Poretti closed the symposium by congratulating the organisers and suggesting Paris as the venue for 2016.
