2002 OHP

The 24th GEOS Symposium was held from May 18 to May 20, 2002 at the Observatoire de Haute Provence. This meeting took place within the framework of the usual annual GEOS scientific meetings, bringing together members of the group and invited collaborators to review ongoing activities and discuss future orientations.

As in previous symposia, part of the discussions was devoted to the life of the group and its evolution. The observing campaigns and the priority research programme were reviewed, and the organisation of a CCD training session at the OHP was discussed, with a view to regular use of the observatory’s telescopes.

The scientific programme comprised theoretical presentations and communications devoted to individual stars. The following interventions were presented during the meeting:

  • Study of RR Lyrae pulsations, with particular emphasis on S Ara (Denis Gillet)
  • Photometry at the Geneva Observatory (Bernard Pernier)
    Betype stars (Juan Fabregat)
  • The ELODIE spectrograph (Bernard Pernier)
  • Difficulties encountered in radialvelocity measurements in the search for extrasolar planets (Frank Martinache)
  • V437 Aur (Roland Boninsegna)
  • OW Gem (Serge Kuchto)
  • VV Cep: unsuccessful observations (Serge Kuchto)
  • V1027 Ori (Jacqueline Vandenbroere)
  • GSC 13101940 Tau (Michel Dumont)
  • δ Sco (Juan Fabregat)
  • Two suspected variables from the NSV catalogue (Jacqueline Vandenbroere)
  • PX Cep (Roland Boninsegna)

The meeting also allowed participants to become familiar with the facilities of the Observatoire de Haute Provence. A visit to the Swiss dome was organised, including a presentation of the use of the 193cm telescope for radial velocity measurements.

The symposium concluded after a final exchange of views, once again illustrating the collaborative and working character of the regular GEOS symposia.
